This is a 'carry-on subject' from the 'Go Danny it your birthday' subject. As that topic went off subject and went onto to something that was nothing to do with my bday or to do with me for that matter Ive started a new one and hope people will use this one. So yer people post you coments on sXe here and we are still waiting on Shaun's to explain why he thinks sXe is 'stupid' (bearing in mind that a few of this bands fans are sXe (not me though I drink my body weight ;D))....

In essence the concept behind straight edge is a fairly good idea, however people saying that they are going to remain edge until they die, is totally pathetic. How many people are going to live the entire rest of their life without touching a single drop of alcohol, even Jesus himself condoned the use of wine. What’s worse is that people say they would rather die than break edge? Ironic since nine times out of ten they probably will break edge. I’ve even heard people saying they won’t drink tea or coffee?
I have to say I don’t see straight edge as being a lifestyle anymore. Maybe four years ago I did, but not anymore. It’s far more of a fashion accessory than anything else, rising along with the popularity of modern hardcore music.

well iv been poison free since birth. iv rather easily lasted 18 years without touching the stuff. even on my 18th birthday which is the highpoint of when edge kids break. since i claimed edge around 2 years ago and started getting into hardcore where most of the people understand it, its become even easier. i dont exactly plan on drinking anytime soon. there are alot of kids around that claim edge because its cool, they are the kids that give it a bad name, as they dont have the proper reasoning, the heart or the passion behind it to keep themselves truely to it. they are giving the image that edge kids dont last or still give in to temptation plus, i asked you to explain why you thought straight edge was stupid. the first sentence you put was In essence the concept behind straight edge is a fairly good idea

What it seems like to me is that no one minds if you are edge, and (most) edge people don't care if your not. But what people do mind is people who pretend to be what they're not. People who use sxe as a fashion tag are in the wrong as it's ruining what real sxe people stand for.

im a muslim, i've never drank alcohol in my life, or smoked anything. its not hard at all to not drink or smoke.
i can see the point of it being used as a fashion statement... but then again so many other things are so let it be

well i can tell you all one thing, i am seriously pissed off now. i only claimed my edgeness about 3 months ago, but before then id never smoked and only drank a few sips of drink in my life. i find it completely narrow-minded for someone to say its a stupid idea. how DARE ANYONE say that im stupid for not drinking/drug taking/smoking?! you dont know my reasons! hardly anyone knows my main reason!
as for the comment that sxe people do it as a fashion statement, well theres no denying that some may see it as that, to fit into the hardcore scene. however i dont listen to hardcore straight edge bands. i listen to punk and ska mostly so how the fuck is that following a trend? i get laughed at by narrow minded punks because one of the main things behind the punk scene is drinking and drug taking. there is no way of ever stopping people becoming edge if its for the wrong reasons, but dont most people start smoking because their friends do it? is that not "trying to fit in"? and i know that is a reason people start smoking because thats a reason many of my friends have given
how is saying they want to be edge till they die pathetic? dont you think your being rather pathetic saying that? i have every intention of staying clean. obviously thats easy for me to say, being 16 and all but still, i chose to be edge and i chose to live like that. so what if jesus drank? he also hung around with hookers and fishermen, it doesnt mean i have to!
i dont drink tea or coffee, i never have, i dont like it. so whats wrong with that?
thanks for sticking up for me marly. i try not to come off as a preacher just because im edge, but sometimes its hard to word why youve turned edge without sounding like your preaching so i think some people are unfairly given the term
i agree with jamie, shaun can shut the fuck up coz hes seriosly making me think i dont wanna be involved with 100ways. and i shouldnt have to feel like that, you guys are my friends. id die for some of you, id DRINK for some of you
in closing id just like to say a big thank you to everyone who, since ive turned edge has either stuck up for me or just respected my decision. and a big FUCK YOU to anyone whos so narrow minded that they cant accept why some people chose not to drink/smoke etc

Okay I can see I’ve pissed some people off here, let me try and rephrase what I'm saying, I’m not trying to say it’s a stupid idea to not drink or smoke because if I were then I’d be a total fucking hypocrite since I don’t drink or smoke. The main thing I’m trying to get at is that people are using straight edge as a way to try and look cool, which I think is a pretty fucking stupid idea. These are usually the guys who say they would rather die than drink alcohol or smoke weed.
I know some people who are straight edge and have been for nearly 10years. They’ll admit that in another 10 or so years, they will probably no longer call themselves straight edge. Also that a glass of wine with dinner when your 50; isn’t a bad thing or a mistrust of what you vowed when you were younger. They say straight edge is a kind of learning process, when you’re young you learn that you don’t need alcohol or drugs to enjoy yourself. This is the message that you should learn to carry on into later life.

hey hannahs mummy!!! okies, i think this topics got out of hand, true people say some ignarant things (dont we all...?) and people have probably misinterpreted things. I don't see hannah as a straight edge person, i see her as hannah, hell i sometimes forget that shes edge so much that i offer her a beer now and again, not out of disrespect, but because its not a big deal, its a way of life. Some people dont drink/smoke/do drugs/eat meat/dairy products/sex before marriage, e.t.c because thats their choice, its got fuck all 2 do with anyone else. True things have come in2 fashion, specially edgeness. and true hannah did become edge in the middle of the new trend, but she has been T.Total all her life. I respect anyone who can do that coz, honestly, how many people think their strong enough to do it? i know i couldnt. I was a vegetarian for about 3 years, and i only quit that because i realised it was unhealthy coz i was binging on unhealthy food, and i didnt enjoy eating anymore, that was a personal opinion. Faye agreed with me and we decided to go back 2 meat together gradually, we tried it, didnt like it. Some people stick at things some people dont. My reason for going 2 veggie was prove a point 2 myself, to test my willpower, i proved it, and im proud. I wish the best of luck to anyone who wants 2 make a statement through their choices.
